Adult Education Opportunities

Beginning June 6 there will be one adult education opportunity offered weekly through the end of the summer (August 29) from 10:20 - 11:05 am. These classes will be led by Pastor Grunow, Kelley Mata and Greg Bohlken. These classes combine to focus our summer months toward considering how Lutherans understand and interpret Holy Scripture. Some of the classes will be background information surrounding the origin and development of the Old and New Testaments, including a class covering the different English translations of the Bible. Additionally, we will also replay the video series by Dr. Mark Allan Powell, a Lutheran professor and theologian, exploring a Lutheran understanding of the Bible and Biblical interpretation.

This summer series is designed to lend it self to those who would like to attend all summer long, thereby building a broad foundation for understanding the Bible. Yet each session will explore various elements related to our broader theme (how to understand the Bible) and, as individual sessions, they can also stand alone and will provide helpful information even if someone hasn't attended previous sessions.

  • June 6 - Greg Bohlken leads a discussion about the Sabbath utilizing the Nooma video series.
  • June 13 - Pastor Grunow leads a discussion on Jesus & The Pigs, a lectionary discussion on Luke 8:26-39.
  • June 20 - Kelley Mata leads a exploration on the origin of the Old Testament.
  • June 27 - Kelley Mata leads and exploration on the origin of the New Testament.
  • July 4 - Kelley Mata leads a exploration on Understanding the different English translations of the Bible (NIV, NRSV, etc.)
  • July 11 - Pastor Grunow will lead How Do We Interpret the Bible: Session 1: The Word of God.
  • July 18 - Pastor Grunow will lead How Do We Interpret the Bible: Session 2: What Lutherans Say About the Bible.
  • July 25 - Kelley Mata will lead How Do We Interpret the Bible: Session 3: Where the Bible comes From.
  • Aug 1 - Kelley Mata will lead How Do We Interpret the Bible: Session 4: Interpreting the Bible in Context.
  • Aug 8 - Greg Bohlken will lead How Do We Interpret the Bible: Session 5: Determining Right from Wrong.
  • Aug 15 - Pastor Grunow How Do We Interpret the Bible: Session 6: The Many Meanings of the Bible.
  • Aug 22 -Pastor Grunow will lead How Do We Interpret the Bible: Session 7: Devotional Bible Reading.
  • Aug 29 - Pastor Grunow will lead - Using devotional resources in your personal spiritual life.
